Pawel Lisek is the author of the exhibition, consisting of two sets of work, both of which present diametrically different stylistic attitudes towards the “view = information” topic. The equation sign is not a mathematical notion in this case, but a borrowing from the programming language and defines “view as information” and “information as view”. The result of such assumptions is a single series of works, created with the use of numerical data coming from GPS', and presenting a variety of forms which can be created by using such an unusual tool. The centre motive of the creations is “error of satellite” – a situation when the piece of equipment, located in one point, generates a diverse map of points spread around an area of few meters. The second series is based on composition analysis of the RGB signal and its transformation into sound. It is a attempt to free oneself from pre learned and acquired patterns and rules. The conditional process of composing images via sounds, not the visual impression, verifies its subjective reception. The process based characteristic is a vital merit of the whole; the creation process, in this case, is more important that the result – the image.
The audience will have a chance to test the tool on their own during the vernissage i.e. compose their own music while painting, . The exhibition will be open until 23.05.2010.
CROSS_VS – is an intersection of View and Sound – a meeting between an experimental musician and a painter, who presents and open minded understanding of his craft. A wide variety of music and painting creating tools will be presented during the performance. A set of connected infra-red cameras and monitors will become “generators” of sound and image; both of which will be mixed live. This way of working with images will result in creating an interesting creative space, unbound by aesthetic rules; when it comes to the sound layer – there will be no control over it and it will lack your favourite scales and rhythms.
PAWEL LISEK – painter, audio-visual artist. His works were presented during numerous individual, and collective, exhibitions.
